(The unchanging presence beneath the layers of identity)
Who are you without your occupation, culture, gender or religion? If I asked you to use just one word to identify yourself—without any labeling—what would come to mind?
We often immerse ourselves in things we do, our titles, and the faiths we follow, believing these define who we are. But how many of us pause long enough to pull ourselves together and truly awaken to self-awareness?
Self-awareness is the recognition of your true essence—your soul, the purest form of YOU; to remain in your essence you must also be aware of it.
Our capabilities are not measured by how others perceive us but by how we see ourselves. The soul is created to magnify the Creator, and our essence should reflect that version of ourselves where we are genuinely happy, deeply grateful, and content simply being who we are.
Yet life can be treacherous. Even when we are aware, we could act in ways that contradict that belief. That is where the essence begins to dissipate—the slow fading of our sense of self and worth. And in that emptiness, we cling to our titles, our culture, and our religion, mistaking them for identity.
To begin reclaiming our essence, we can turn to simple yet profound practices: creating moments of silence & reflection to quieten the world’s expectations; shifting focus from what we “do” to who we are; making choices that align with our inner truth; and letting go of comparisons so we can embrace our unique design.
I truly believe it is never too late to gather ourselves again. It is a long journey, but one that gives life meaning. Finding your soul—and choosing to let it remain with you—is the greatest gift you can give yourself.
Own your Essence, it is yours.
